Bar Owner Avoids Multiple Selling Alcohol to Underage Persons Convictions

Posted On: February 4th, 2015

A local Columbus bar owner found himself in quite a bit of trouble recently. His bar had been targeted by undercover police for selling alcohol to underage individuals. On three separate occasions, he sold alcohol to underage informants. He was then contacted by the Columbus Police Department officer who had been running the investigation to let him know that he was being charged with 3 cases of selling alcohol to underage persons. The cases were scheduled for arraignment in Franklin County Municipal Court.

The bar owner was naturally concerned about the impact of multiple liquor convictions both on his bar, as well as on himself. Prior to his arraignment on the selling alcohol to underage persons charges, he reached out and contacted attorney Ben Luftman. After speaking with attorney Luftman, the Columbus Criminal Defense team was hired to fight for this bar owner who wanted to keep his bar and minimize the other penalties on the case.

The attorneys at LHA represented the client on his case. After 4 court dates, we negotiated a plea deal where two of the selling alcohol to underage persons cases were dismissed and the third case was reduced to a lesser charge. Our client gladly accepted the deal and was only made to pay a small fine by the judge.
