Driving Under Suspension Reduced to Jaywalking

Posted On: March 18th, 2014

Our client was involved in an accident while she was driving under suspension and also did not have insurance. Any traffic conviction would place her under another suspension and perpetuate the never-ending cycle of BMV suspensions.

When folks hire the Columbus Criminal Defense team for Driving under Suspension (DUS) cases, we take a two part approach: 1) working with the client and BMV to assist them in obtaining a license; and 2) working with the court to avoid convictions, penalties, and more suspensions.  We worked with our client here to sort through the various BMV suspensions and she obtained a valid license – something she had not had in years. Then, the attorneys with LHA met with the prosecutor and coordinated a payment to the victim in the case. Consequently, the prosecutor agreed to amend the charge to a jaywalking charge in order to avoid another license suspension.
