Drug Paraphernalia Charge Dismissed

Posted On: March 14th, 2014

A young man was approached by a Hilliard Police Department officer. After some discussion, the officer asked to search the young man’s vehicle. The young man agreed. The search of the vehicle yielded a marijuana pipe. The young man was charged with drug paraphernalia and his case was scheduled in arraignment Hilliard Mayor’s Court.

The young man and his family were very concerned about the consequences of a conviction for this charge, which included up to 30 days in jail and up to a $250 fine. They decided to meet with attorney Ben Luftman and discuss what options were available. After speaking with attorney Luftman, the Columbus Criminal Defense team was hired to represent the young man on his case.

Initially, a motion was filed to transfer the case to Franklin County Municipal Court. From there, attorneys with LHA represented the young man and was ultimately able to negotiate the dismissal of his case for his payment of court costs and attendance at an eight-hour drug education class. The young man was more than happy to accept the offer. The dismissal and subsequent expungement or sealing of his record will permanently remove this incident from his criminal background and allow him to move forward.
