Marijuana Possession and Drug Paraphernalia Charges Dismissed

Posted On: January 2nd, 2014

A young man was in his 20s was in his vehicle smoking marijuana in a public parking lot. A Dublin police officer made contact with him and immediately smelled the marijuana. The young man came clean and gave his pipe to the officer. He was then charged with marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia. His case was scheduled in Dublin Mayor’s Court.

After researching attorneys online, he contacted Attorney Ben Luftman to discuss his case. The issue he was most concerned about was having a drug conviction on his record. Being in the real estate business, he felt this could destroy his chances at advancing his career. After a thorough discussion, the Columbus Criminal Defense team was hired to represent him on the case.

Attorneys with LHA represented this young man at Dublin Mayor’s Court. Usually we like to argue about the evidentiary weaknesses in the prosecutor’s case. Sometimes we don’t have a lot to argue about. This was one of those cases. However, we were able to make a convincing mitigation argument based on our client’s lack of prior criminal record and the detriment a conviction would have on the rest of his life.

Ultimately, the prosecutor agreed to dismiss both charges for our client’s payment of court costs and attendance and successful completion of a drug-related program.
