While shopping at a central Ohio retail store recently, a young lady in her early 20s tried to steal some items and was unsuccessful. Prior to leaving the store she was apprehended by loss prevention and admitted to trying to conceal the items. She was cited with misdemeanor theft. Her case was scheduled in Franklin County Municipal Court.
Attorney Ben Luftman was contacted by her husband, who then scheduled an office appointment. After meeting in person with attorney Luftman, the Columbus Criminal Defense team was hired to represent the young lady on her misdemeanor theft case.
Attorneys with LHA represented our client on her case. We were able to negotiate with the prosecutor, who agreed to dismiss the misdemeanor theft case, if our client agreed to pay the court costs and attend an anti-theft education class. The young lady was more than happy to comply with the negotiated terms in exchange for the dismissal of her case.
The dismissal of the misdemeanor theft case and subsequent expungement or sealing of the young lady’s record will permanently remove this very unfortunate incident from her criminal background.
