Retail Theft Charge Dismissed in Case of Mistaken Identity

Posted On: September 16th, 2016

Columbus criminal defense attorneys with Luftman, Heck & Associates recently assisted a man when someone else’s alleged actions left him in a very precarious legal position. Apparently, a young man was stopped for shoplifting, but he provided the authorities with another individual’s name and information. Unfortunately, this resulted in this unsuspecting person being charged with retail theft and in order to navigate the criminal process and clear up this matter, he contacted attorneys with LHA.

We did not want to see this other person’s behavior create a lasting effect on his client’s criminal record; therefore, we began reviewing all the relevant facts of the case. After speaking with witnesses and taking statements from our client’s family members, it became apparent that his client’s cousin was likely the actual perpetrator. Once our attorneys presented these findings to the prosecution, the theft charges were completely dismissed.
