Misdemeanor Theft Charge Dismissed

A young lady in her mid-20s was shopping at a local department store recently when she made an out-of-character and admittedly very poor decision. While shopping she tried to conceal some items and exit the store without paying for them. Before exiting the store, she was stopped by loss prevention and asked to accompany them back to their office. While in their office, she was questioned about the items and confessed to trying to steal them. She was then charged with misdemeanor theft. Her case was scheduled in Franklin County Municipal Court.

At this point in time, she was devastated. She knew she had made a mistake and was convinced that it would follow her for the rest of her life. After a few days passed, she knew she had to do something to see if her situation could be better. She picked up the phone and contacted attorney Ben Luftman. Attorney Luftman explained her circumstances and options. After speaking with attorney Luftman, the Columbus Criminal Defense team was hired to represent her on the misdemeanor theft case.

Attorney Luftman and attorney Dan Sabol represented her on the case. It took four court dates of going back and forth on her behalf, but ultimately we were able to negotiate the dismissal of her misdemeanor theft case for her payment of court costs and completion of an anti-theft class. Our client was overjoyed at having her case dismissed and by the fact we were able to spare her the further embarrassment of having to appear in court as well. We then filed a motion to seal or expunge the record of her misdemeanor theft case, as we do with all clients we represent who are eligible and when granted, this charge will be completely removed from her criminal background.
