Misdemeanor Theft Charge Dismissed

Posted On: April 21st, 2014

A young lady recently put herself in a bad position and then made an even worse decision once she had been caught. While shopping at Macy’s, she decided to try and steal some merchandise. After being approached by loss prevention, she compounded this very serious lapse in judgment by trying to flee the store. She was caught and charged with misdemeanor theft. Her case was then scheduled in Franklin County Municipal Court.

This young lady had unquestionably put herself in a very bad situation. Her charge was public record and if not handled properly, would leave her branded as untrustworthy potentially for the rest of her life. Further, it’s difficult to make a mitigation argument when your client tries to flee after being caught. It was under these circumstances that this young lady reached out to attorney Ben Luftman and the Columbus Criminal Defense team to represent her in her misdemeanor theft case. Attorneys with LHA really went to bat for this young lady and, despite her extremely difficult circumstances, was able to negotiate a dismissal of her case for an extensive amount of community service performed and her payment of court costs.

This resolution and the subsequent sealing or expunging of her record will completely remove this misdemeanor theft case from her criminal background and allow her to put an extremely bad set of decisions behind her.
