Misdemeanor Theft Charge Dismissed

Posted On: June 5th, 2014

A retiree in her mid-60s was recently caught up in a situation that was truly terrifying. While shopping at a local Meijer’s store, she was stopped by loss prevention. She was then taken back into the loss prevention office and accused of trying to steal merchandise. Ultimately, she was charged with misdemeanor theft. Her case was then scheduled in Franklin County Municipal Court.

Having never been charged with a criminal offense in her entire life, she was going through a number of different emotions as she discussed her circumstance with attorney Ben Luftman. After speaking with him, the Columbus Criminal Defense team was hired to represent her on the misdemeanor theft case.

Attorneys with LHA represented our client in the case. We were able to explain to the prosecutor about what an out of character event this truly was in an otherwise law-abiding life. Ultimately, the prosecutor agreed to dismiss the misdemeanor theft charge upon our client’s agreement to pay the court costs and attend an 8-hour anti-theft program. Our client was more than happy to comply, get the case dismissed and move on from an extremely embarrassing episode.
