A gentleman in his early 40s found himself in an embarrassing and potentially life-altering situation recently. Through a series of events, he was charged with soliciting a prostitute by an undercover Columbus Police Department officer. His case was scheduled in Franklin County Municipal Court.
Having never been charged with more than a minor traffic violation, the gentleman was extremely embarrassed that he now had to face a very public charge of soliciting a prostitute. He was concerned by the fact that it is a first-degree misdemeanor and punishable by up to 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine. He decided he needed to hire an attorney to represent him on the case. After an office meeting with attorney Ben Luftman, the Columbus Criminal Defense team was hired to try and minimize the damage.
Attorney Luftman and attorney Dan Sabol represented our client on the soliciting a prostitute case. We appeared on his behalf at his arraignment without him having to be there. This was a big relief because he was very anxious about appearing in court and did not want to have to take time off work.
Ultimately, after 6 court dates of going in and negotiating with the prosecutor, our client’s soliciting a prostitute case was dismissed for his payment of court costs and fulfilling additional conditions. The gentleman was grateful to put a very embarrassing moment in his life behind him without a criminal conviction.
As we do in all of our cases where our client is eligible, a motion to seal or expunge the record was filed directly after the dismissal of the case. Once granted by the judge, the record of the soliciting a prostitute case will be removed from the Franklin County Municipal Clerk of Courts website and from his criminal background. The gentleman will once again have a clean slate.
