Underage Alcohol Possession Charge Dismissed

Posted On: June 26th, 2014

A 20-year-old college student was recently in Columbus visiting her family. She decided to go to a local bar with her friends over the weekend. Little did she know there were also undercover police officers in the bar. After being approached and conversing with one of them, she found herself charged with underage alcohol possession.  Her case was scheduled in Franklin County Municipal Court.

The charges were scary to her for many reasons. First, the underage alcohol possession charge is a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 6 months in jail and up to a $1,000 fine. The young student had never been charged previously with more than a speeding ticket. Also, she was quite concerned about how a criminal conviction could affect her ability to get a job after graduating.

A family member contacted attorney Ben Luftman to get some answers. After speaking with attorney Luftman, the Columbus Criminal Defense team was hired to represent the young lady on her case.

Attorneys with LHA represented the student in her case. We were able to negotiate a dismissal of our client’s underage alcohol possession case in exchange for her payment of court costs and attendance at an underage alcohol class.

The dismissal and subsequent expungement or sealing of our client’s case, will ultimately remove it completely from her criminal background.
