Woman Enters Diversion Program After Licking County Retail Theft Charges

Posted On: August 12th, 2016

The capable criminal defense attorneys with Ohio’s Luftman, Heck & Associates recently assisted a woman when she found herself in a very precarious position after retail theft charges put her criminal record and possibly her freedom in jeopardy. The woman was stopped in a Licking County department store and accused of shoplifting approximately $100 worth of merchandise. If convicted, this first-degree misdemeanor could have resulted in a penalty of six months in jail.

By utilizing our comprehensive experience with shoplifting cases, we began negotiating with the prosecutors in hopes of finding an alternative to a conviction and jail time. He alleviated his client’s concerns by successfully enrolling her into a theft diversion program for first-time offenders. Upon its completion, the client was relieved to know she could pursue an expungement, allowing her to move past this unnerving event.
