Court Process Information
The first step in the court process is an arraignment, which is where your charges will be read in front of the sitting magistrate and you will plead “not guilty,” “guilty” or “no contest.” When you hire the Granville DUI lawyers from LHA to represent your case, this means that you likely will not have to show up for your arraignment. You can leave all of the pre-trial work to us.
If you do choose to hire an attorney, the next step is to try to reduce penalties. For sex offenses, for example, we’d try to keep the conviction off your record and avoid inclusion on the sex offender registry. For OVI / DUI cases, we’d try to keep you out of jail, lessen your license suspension and most importantly avoid getting an OVI conviction, instead reducing the charge to something like reckless operation or physical control.
If we are not satisfied with pre-trial results at the Granville Mayor’s Court, we may opt to move the case downtown to the Licking County Municipal Court instead, which would share the same prosecutor.
