Domestic Violence Case Dismissed After Woman Slaps Boyfriend

Posted On: January 5th, 2016

A 22-year-old Columbus woman was recently involved in an argument with her live-in boyfriend. Neither chose to call the police during the altercation, but the disruptive feud raised some concern to the neighbors and police officers soon arrived at their residence. Following questioning with the boyfriend, officers were able to determine that she had slapped him. As a result, the woman was charged with a 1st-degree misdemeanor domestic violence. Her boyfriend, however, did not wish to pursue the charges. The woman knew her career at a local law office was at stake, and her record would permanently suffer should she be convicted. At once, she made the decision to call to Luftman, Heck & Associates attorney Joseph Kunkel in a desperate attempt to clear her name from this violent crime.

Soon after, our client was given a restrictive “stay away order” and was required to move out of their home temporarily. Using his vast experience in the legal field, attorney Kunkel was successful in working with the prosecutor for a dismissal of his client’s domestic violence charges for payment of court costs. Our client was able to continue working and did not see a conviction on her record.
