Significant Jail Time Avoided on Fourth Lifetime OVI / DUI Charge

A young lady with three prior lifetime OVI / DUI convictions made an extremely poor choice recently. She decided to drink and then get behind the wheel. This resulted in her crashing her SUV into a pole. A Columbus Police Department officer observed the young lady get out of her vehicle and begin walking toward a nearby apartment complex. The officer got out of his cruiser to go speak with her and noted a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage. After speaking with her, she was asked to perform the roadside field sobriety tests. She refused. She was then placed under arrest for a fourth lifetime OVI / DUI  offense. She was asked to submit to a breath test and refused. Her case was then scheduled for arraignment in Franklin County Municipal Court.

Because she was charged under the Columbus City Traffic Code a lifetime look back period was used. If convicted for a fourth lifetime OVI / DUI, she was facing a very serious amount of jail time.
