Passing Bad Checks, Possessing Criminal Tools Reduced

Posted On: April 11th, 2014

A college student who was looking forward to graduating found herself with an outstanding warrant in Franklin County Common Pleas Court  after being charged with felony passing bad checks and possession of criminal tools. Living out-of-state, this college student and mother of two did not know where to turn. After researching her options online, she contacted attorney Ben Luftman. After speaking with attorney Luftman, the Columbus Criminal Defense team was hired to represent her on the case.

Attorney Luftman reached out to the prosecutor and initially was able to get his client’s warrant set aside without her having to travel to Ohio. Ultimately, after a great deal of negotiation, attorney Luftman was able to convince the prosecutor to dismiss the possession of criminal tools charge and reduce the passing bad checks charge to a disorderly conduct charge. The judge sentenced our client to a small fine and no probation.  This result allows attorney Luftman to return to court in one year and file a motion to seal or expunge his client’s record. This will completely remove the case from her public record and give her an opportunity to truly move on with her very promising life.
